In 1989, as newly qualified graduates, in a city in the North of England, we decided to offer accommodation to fellow students and young professionals who were looking for a place to call home.
At the time, the offering was basic compared to today, but we got to learn what worked and what didn’t work and through our own experience as students living in student accommodation, we had an inside perspective on what they were looking for. Before long, we found that we were constantly busy with enquiries and had a waiting list of people wanting to move in. Word had got around.
12 years later, looking for a new adventure, we made the big decision to move to South London to try our efforts there. And in 2001, we offered our first house to rent in New Cross, Lewisham – a six bedroom Victorian terrace only a stones throw from Goldsmith College. The house was immediately taken and from there we never looked back... We went on to expand our portfolio into flats, flat conversions, houses and more recently high spec professional HMO’s (Houses in multiple Occupation).
Whilst tempted to sometimes move into other areas of the country, we decided to keep all our properties within a close radius so that we could know our area really well and offer the highest level of service to our tenants. We became accredited landlords with both the National Landlords Association and the London Landlords Accreditation Scheme and also joined as members of the University of London Housing Services.
Now, over 30 years later, we are proud to say that we have nearly 100 tenants in our care, and an amazing team of people all contributing to the professional running of 108 Properties. From the exceptional staff at the managing agents (Bryan & Keegan and Leaders), to the professional engineers at British Gas who are on call 24/7 to see to any emergencies, to the builders, gardeners and cleaners, who regularly visit the properties to ensure everything is working smoothly.
We continue to expand in providing the very best quality accommodation in South East London and are excited to see what the future holds!
